Tuesday Training Tip: What’s Your WHY?

Why does this training exist? What is the purpose of this training? Why is it done the way it’s done? If the answer is “because it’s required” or “because we’ve always done it this way,” it’s probably time for a change.

Time to ask some new questions and take a fresh look at the trainings you lead in your organization.

FOR TRAINERS & FACILITATORS – Get Curious!

1. Ask yourself the magic question – What would it look like if it worked?

If the training went well, achieved its objectives and created a positive impact on those who attended as well as the organization, what would it take? Also, think of answering that question from the participant’s point of view. What do you see?

2. 10 Questions & 10 Ideas Exercise

Draw a line down a sheet of paper and on one side, write down 10 questions that come to mind for you about the training you will be designing or leading. You can do it from your perspective, the participants’ perspective or even the organization’s perspective. But get 10 questions down on the left. Then, move over to the right side and jot down 10 ideas you have for improving or enhancing the experience for yourself, the participants and the organization. Set your timer for 10 minutes and see how much you can shake loose in that short amount of time!

3. Stop, Start & Continue

Take a moment to reflect – what do you need to STOP doing, START doing and CONTINUE doing in order for everyone to get the most out of the experience?

What ONE thing could you do differently? What difference could that make?

I challenge you to give it a try this week and let me know your results!

I look forward to hearing from you and learning from you!
